The wire is the whole argument. A cable carries the picture the same way in year three as on the first evening, through a steel tailgate, past a neighbor on the same band, in a parking lot full of radios. Nothing on this page can drop out, because there is nothing to drop out of. The cost is an afternoon: the cable goes along a door sill under trim that lifts by hand on most vehicles, up the A-pillar and out at the dash.

Choose on two things. The screen: 4.3 inches disappears on a dash, seven inches is legible at arm's length and is what people towing ask for. The power: the USB kits run from a phone charger, which is one fewer wire to find in a modern cabin, and the 12V ones take the lighter socket. The 2K kit is the outlier here. It is a sharper picture that shows the difference on a wet night, when a 1080p camera turns a curb into a smear.
