Seven inches on a car dash is a deliberate choice, not an upgrade. If you tow, or if your dash is deep enough that the screen sits at arm's length, the larger monitor is the difference between reading a curb and guessing at a smear. This is the car version of the wireless kit: license plate camera at the back, radio link to the front, and about fifteen minutes of work once the reversing light is found.
It records. The monitor writes what the camera sees to a card and plays it back with one button, which matters more in a parking lot than on the road. The case is rated IP69K, the wash-down rating rather than the puddle one. And the picture appears when reverse is selected, because that is where the camera takes its power: if you want the view while moving, take one of the kits fed from a 12V socket instead.

A camera shows you what is behind the vehicle. It does not stop the vehicle, it does not watch for you, and it cannot see what is not in the picture: a child crouched against the bumper, a bollard below the lens, a cyclist arriving from the side. Federal rear-visibility rules exist because reversing kills and injures people every year, and the bodies that write those rules ask drivers to look, to walk around the vehicle and to reverse slowly whatever is fitted. Nothing on this site is a substitute for any of that.
